Basically Kaushik Kashyap is from Dibrugarh, Assam, who decided to follow his dream of creating music after completing his engineering in electronics from Pune. It was due to equal interest towards Indian classical and western music that encouraged him to create fusion music. In the year 2014, he got a chance to compose the title track for an acclaimed period short-film “Hunz N Gunz” and also played one of the lead roles in the film as an actor.
After shifting to Mumbai, he started to share stage with a popular performer ‘Ali Quli Mirza’ and performed all over India in several big events along with him. In 2016, Zee Music Company released his single ‘Jogi De Naal’ which is a Sufi-fusion track and a great hit. Kaushik has a band in Mumbai called Open Music Grind(OMG).
The song Sadiya is a unique blend of folk fusion which showcases the rich history and culture of Sadiya. Sadiya is an unexplored tourism hot-spot and the video song touches the important places which could become a tourist hub. The main intention of the video song is to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Sadiya. . “Last year I had decided to make a song on ‘Sadiya’. Since my childhood I have heard lots of stories about this mystic place. My main intention to make this song was to showcase the rich history and culture of Sadiya. Sadiya is an unexplored area and it has a tremendous potential to become a great tourist hot spot,” said Kaushik Kashyap.
He said while composing the song he tried to take the feel of each word and compose the song which made the song a bit different from usual compositions “Last year I came to my home town Dibrugarh and decided to make a project on Sadiya because there are a lot of sentiments of the people of Assam associated with sadiya, which is famous since ancient times. Earlier, sadiya was bit isolated from the mainland because the people had to depend on ferry services but after the completion of Dhola-Sadiya(Dr Bhupen Hazarika) bridge the communication becomes easier and within half an hour we can cross the bridge. After the completion of the bridge people get a sigh of relief in medical emergency,” Kashyap said.
According to Kashyap the song is a fusion of Northeastern folk and western music in a unique way. “It’s a new kind of folk- fusion where I have tried to experiment with harmony. All the background vocals are in my voice and I have tried to experiment with more than three to four kinds of voices in the background to make it soulful.”
Kashyap said that as an artist his primary responsibility is to create values on peoples through his art. “I also want to make movies and web series on various issues plaguing in the society. Northeast has its own cultures and festival and all the cultures and festival are unique from one another. Through my work I want to showcase the rich cultural of Northeast to the world.”
