With the aim of promoting adventure tourism and sports, fifty bike enthusiasts from Dibrugarh embarked on a motorcycle rally to the Dhola-Sadiya bridge, the country’s longest bridge in Sadiya subdivision of Tinsukia district on June 11, 2017.
The adventure ride sponsored by Royal Enfield started at 8am from Amolapatty and after traversing through several towns and rural locations, the bikers group reached the iconic bridge after nearly three hours of riding on the NH-37, the 9.15-km bridge over the Brahmaputra known as the Bhupen Hazarika Setu, inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26.
The bridge with its picturesque surroundings has of late become a major tourist attraction. Every day hundreds of visitors including domestic and foreign tourists visit the bridge.
“The purpose of arranging this rally was to promote adventure tourism and sports in the region. Royal Enfield organises and supports many motorcycling events and rides globally. The prominent are Rider Mania which is an annual gathering of Royal Enfield riders from all over the world to the lovely beaches of Goa. We also have the Himalayan Odyssey, the most arduous motorcycle ride over some of the toughest roads and highest mountain passes in the Himalayas. We also promote the event ‘One Ride’ where people around the world ride out on their motorcycles on the first Sunday of April,” an organiser said.
