Be a Catalyst for Change!

Asongla

We talk about saving our environment and read about the importance of a healthy environment to survive. Environmental education has made us realise the need to preserve natural wealth. But just knowing and talking doesn’t help. We know about the need to save the environment and we often talk about it. But most of us only talk. A very few of us actually do something. There are so many simple ways to save the environment. We just don’t pay attention to them. We just don’t think we can do anything or that we should. However a collective group of like-minded individuals from various fields from Mokokchung town, Nagaland had the zeal to make Mokokchung a cleaner place.

ffHence in the early year of 2016, these young enthusiasts came together for a common cause to save the environment at Mokokchung by cleaning certain places from time to time. They started discussing about cleanliness with different groups of children and youth whenever they find the opportunity. Their relentless attempt defined progressively and eventually in January 2018, these compatible youth got the chance to meet Mr. Dinesh, IPS who was posted as SDPO in Mokokchung during that certain time. Mr. Dinesh being young had the same vision equally as these groups of youth, and had as well initiated cleanliness drive once with the Police team. Currently Mr. Dinesh, IPS is Superintendent of Police (SB) at Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland.
So meeting up these two groups was the beginning of organising different cleanliness drive in various parts of the town until the day came where they organised a mega cleanliness drive with the slogan Clean Mokokchung Campaign of 26th May 2018 with more than 300 volunteers from various walks of life by cleaning the whole stretch of Mokokchung main Town.
Since then CMC has been striving for a cleaner town through various means.

Clean Mokokchung Campaign is neither an organisation nor a registered group. The CMC is not funded by the government or any other group/authority but based on self contribution, when it comes to cleaning certain places by sacrificing their time to educate the community (schools, colleges etc). CMC consists of 7 Core members that are responsible for the smooth functioning of CMC. Team is led by Mr. Limaonen Imchen as Coordinator. Apart from that CMC have a wide network that work together along with different organisations, Churches, Municipal Council, institutions and individuals. They collect bamboo dustbins purely on self contribution and contributions from well wishers. The dustbins are then distributed to schools, colleges etc to bring about awareness of cleanliness. Their agenda is all about giving their best for a cleaner society. Let us resolve to work towards saving the environment – even a small step counts.
