REIKI

Learning to communicate with and understand your body, mind, and spirit is essential for your overall happiness. It is said that mind is the actual driver of the whole system of body, mind and spirit, for it is through it that all instructions, in the form of feelings, are passed onto the body and the spirit.  Indeed, scientific research has proved that what people think and feel has a strong effect on their bodies. Any form of healing should therefore take into consideration the modality that can first heal the mind, healing the body would then become a cakewalk!

Holistic healing is thus the best possible approach to a balanced mind and body system and in today’s times, there are innumerable healing modalities to bring about this balanced healthy persona. Reiki, a form of energy healing, is one such modality, and one which doesn’t require much effort. Once learnt, a little practice makes it a way of life! Reiki focuses purely on the energy of the body that not only gives life but also protects the body from disease when it is strong. When the life force is flowing freely and abundantly, the body is also stronger and the mind and emotions are in balance. People with a more powerful life force are better able to focus, be healthy, and find happiness. On the other hand, if the life force is weak, which can happen for a variety of reasons, the individual will be more prone to not only physical ailments but also emotional and mental turmoil as well. A Reiki healer uses gentle touch to transfer more energy into the patient and strengthen the life force to promote healing.

What Is Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. The word Reiki, pronounced as ‘Ray-key’, is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. Reiki actually means “spiritually guided life force energy.” When something dies, the life force departs. It is believed to be the energy associated with our thoughts, emotions and spiritual existence. Ki is employed by all healers regardless of their cultural background or discipline and is present all around us and is an energy which can be harnessed by the body and guided by the mind.

Reiki is an ancient art but in recent times was rediscovered by a Japanese Scholar, Dr. Mikao Usui. It is a Universal Life Energy system of healing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.  It is done by a person who has had attunements which clear their chakras and channel universal energy through the person and their hands, to the person or thing being treated.

The energy is said to have an “intelligence” that allows it to go exactly where it is needed, regardless of what point on the recipient’s body the hands are placed.  Being attuned to reiki also helps to heal the healer, and bring about advancements in their spiritual growth. Reiki is a powerful tool when used in assisting one’s own spiritual progression and lifts one’s vibrations, which in turn benefits others and ultimately, mankind and the planet earth.

How Reiki Works

Reiki treatment increases your supply of life force energy and helps you heal quickly. It promotes relaxation, makes you feel at peace, and reduces stress. You start moving toward your unique physical, mental, and spiritual balance, and your body’s own healing mechanisms begin to function more effectively.

Reiki is administered by the hands, placed lightly on or near the body of the patient. The healing energy from the body and hands of the Reiki practitioner flows to the patient. The patient then experiences feelings of relaxation, mental clarity, pain relief, decreased anxiety, and a sense of well-being. Research has shown that this occurs because the activity of parasympathetic autonomic nervous system in the patient increases significantly.

Our whole energy field – and that includes our physical body – is very responsive to thoughts and feelings and this flow of energy can become blocked when negative thoughts arrive – whether consciously or subconsciously.  Reiki helps to break through these blockages as it flows through the aura and those affected parts of the energy body, by charging them with positive energy and consequently raising our vibratory level.

Reiki clears and balances the chakras and allows the life-force energy to flow around our body in a natural way.  This accelerates the body’s own natural healing ability.  Reiki is guided by a higher intelligence so it finds its way to those parts of the body which most need healing and it adjusts its energy to suit the person being healed.  Therefore you would only receive as much energy as you need.

Reiki has its own intelligence and knows exactly where to go and what to do – both for the healer and the recipient. Once attuned, a Reiki practitioner simply places his or her hands on the person requiring healing and the energy flows to the area where it is most needed. There are a number of easily-learned hand positions and for a new practitioner it is a good way to start but after working with the energy for some time you feel guided as to where to place your hands.

You don’t need to believe in Reiki for it to work.  Most animals accept it and they probably don’t even know what it is!  Of course you have to meet Reiki halfway too.  This may mean changing your lifestyle a little, but Reiki even assists you to do so by bringing about a calmer and more relaxed state of mind.

You do not need any particular religion or belief system for Reiki to work and there are no complicated rituals to be practiced to make the energy flow, you only need to be attuned once and it remains with you lifelong. Usually, just placing your hands, palm down, on yourself, or another, causes the energy to flow.

The Healing Power Of Reiki

Reiki has the powers to heal any and every living creature. Humans, animals or plants, it works on all living beings without any problem. Animals and plants can be healed easily, since they are considerably less intelligent as compared to human beings. It is somewhat complex to heal humans as they are intelligent and indulge in worldly activities – making it quite difficult to have control over their chakras or energy points. Reiki treatment can only be limited by one thing, which is the recipient’s attitude. Its benefits can be enumerated as follows:

  • Promotes Health And Wellbeing. It accelerates the body’s self-healing abilities,
  • Helps With Pain Management
  • Encourages Mental Clarity
  • Releases Stress & Tension
  • Relieves Depression
  • Reduces Anxiety
  • Improves Sleep
  • Smoothens Digestion
  • Strengthens Self-Esteem
  • Offers Support For Substance Abuse Recovery
  • Creates deep relaxation and aids the body to release stress and tension,
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Can help with acute (injuries) and chronic problems (asthma, eczema, headaches, etc.) and aids the breaking of addictions,
  • Removes energy blockages, adjusts the energy flow of the endocrine system, bringing the body into balance and harmony,
  • Assists the body in cleaning itself from toxins,
  • Reduces some of the side effects of drugs and helps the body to recover from drug therapy after surgery and chemotherapy,
  •  Supports the immune system,
  • Increases vitality and postpones the aging process,
  • Raises the vibrational frequency of the body,
  • Helps spiritual growth and emotional clearing. Heightens Self-Awareness & Intuition.

Conclusion

When we are relaxed, stress-free, we are able to restore our natural ability to heal. Long term practice of whole-body reiki restores the general condition of the body. It opens the energy channels and this allows the body to deal properly and naturally with stress and build-up toxins and cope with anxiety and depression.

When a person is in good health, regular therapy increases the bodies built-in defences. This manifests itself as confidence and outward harmony in dealing with everyday events. The person gains a positive outlook on life. Reiki also provides additional energy required to recover from illness.

The body has a natural will to heal itself. It can heal itself when allowed to do so. This is where Reiki treatments help. They promote relaxation and a sense of peace. They bring about a harmony and a balance in the mind. Once this is achieved, the body is then triggered to start to heal itself. This is what makes Reiki treatments so powerful. Reiki is often used as a complementary treatment for a variety of ailments and issues.
